It's such a busy time of year for everyone! I have been very ill with pneumonia for over 6 weeks, but I am happy (and relieved) to report, I am getting better...but now I have a lot of catching up to do in a very short period of time, to get ready for Christmas.

So...today's post is 3 photos that I am sharing with many memes. I usually post one theme for various memes, but I am contributing to numerous ones, all at once this weekend, due to time constraints. I snapped these pics from inside my home, through the windows (again), while I was sick.

Hosting a meme takes a lot of time, effort and dedication. Without these memes, many blogger's photos would never be viewed, so I am sending out a big "Thank you" to all the meme hosts!

Snowbirds

We had our first REAL winter storm Saturday and Sunday.

We woke up to 14 inches of snow on the ground Sunday morning.

Another two inches fell during the day.

Out front. Now that's what I call a blanket of snow on the car!

The Fly

Blue/Green Bottle Fly - Calliphora spp.

Talk about extended families: Houseflies have more than 152,000 relatives—and those are just the ones that researchers know about.

Blue bottle and green bottle flies are a serious pest of farms, stables, gardens and bin areas. The females lay their eggs where they feed, usually in decaying meat, garbage or faeces. When the larvae hatch from the eggs they immediately begin feeding on the decomposing matter located around the hatching area. More than just a nuisance, these flies are carriers of diseases in both humans and animals.

Pond Mills/Westminster Ponds

Yesterday we went for a hike...

Over the meadow

Through the woods

To Saunders Pond

There are 6 ponds in a 200 hectares area. The ponds are “kettle lakes” created in this glacial clay area 14,000 years ago by the melting of large blocks of glacial ice.

Pond Mills Environmentally Significant Area (ESA) is a large publicly-owned ESA in London (population 366,151). The ESA is significant for its size and for its great variety of natural habitats within the boundaries of a major urban centre. The site is also designated as a Provincially Significant Wetland.

We live in the Pond Mills subdivision,

the Pond Mills/Westminster ESA is three blocks from our house.

We enjoy visiting "the Ponds" in all seasons.

How Does Your Garden Grow 2

Lots of flowers, only one cuc so far!

Swiss chard

With a little bug heart eaten out on the lower leaf. I am an organic gardener.

IMHO swiss chard tastes lke grass, no matter how you prepare it!

I don't think I'll grow it next year.

This little guy is about the size of a dime.

It's been HOT and HUMID for over a week now, with temps of 100F-113F. My garden is growing great! I on the other hand have wilted!

Queen of the Swamp

Wild Yellow Iris

Iris pseudacorus

A wetland plant that is especially showy during its short blooming period. Not native to North America, Iris pseudacorus was brought to Canada and the U.S. as an ornamental plant in the early 1900s. It is a fast-growing and fast-spreading invasive plant that can out compete other wetland plants.
