Inukshuk - Black and White Weekend

A small Inukshuk I received as Christmas present

The mysterious stone figures known as inuksuit can be found throughout the circumpolar world. Inukshuk, the singular of inuksuit, means "in the likeness of a human" in the Inuit language. The traditional meaning of the inukshuk is "Someone was here" or "You are on the right path." These sculptural forms are among the oldest and most important objects placed by humans upon the vast Arctic landscape and have become a familiar symbol of the Inuit and of their homeland. An inukshuk can be small or large, a single rock, several rocks balanced on each other, round boulders or flat. Built from whatever stones are at hand, each one is unique. The arrangement of stones indicates the purpose of the marker.

A Surprising Shot - Weekend Reflections

I was experimenting with taking photos of light - in low light. The only light in the room was coming from the gas fireplace and the Christmas tree. I snapped a couple of the fireplace, thinking that they wouldn't be much to see. I was surprised when I transfered the pics to the computer.

The fireplace photo itself isn't great, but what an interesting reflection! The Christmas tree on the fireplace glass, with a reflection of the reflection. The snowflakes in the upper section are actually lights in our front windows, which are coverd with semi-transparent blinds.

If you saw my post from yesterday, you know we are currently under 3 feet of snow. There isn't much water around here, but I have some summer shots, so...
...here's to remembering summer.

Snow Magic

On December 6th and 7th almost 2-1/2 feet (75cm) of snow fell on our city.
*Snow Days were declared for 3 days.

Tree on our front lawn

Night shot
Orbs and dots are snow being blown from the tree and caught by the flash of the camera

The bright sunlight bouncing off the camera lens creating a prismatic effect.
Now that's what I call Christmas lights!

*Snow Days - The city shuts down, school and business closures, public transportation pulled off the roads, no postal service... etc.
