Appearing, Disappearing and Ever Present

With the season change comes new, but familiar visitors to the yard.

The Common Grackle comes in hoards from the south.
There were 40 or more in the yard this morning.

The European Starlings make an appearance in large numbers.
They are present year round, but rarely venture into our area until early spring.

Many feeder regulars will stop showing up frequently.
The Black-capped Chickadee is also a year rounder,
but we see less of them as the weather becomes warmer.

The Dark-eyed Juncos will soon fly further north for the summer,
and won't be seen again until late fall.

The ever present Black (and Grey) Squirrels continue to come for the goodies.
This guy is moulting.

Friday The 13th Randomness

1. It's Friday the 13th! Just another day to me. How about you?

2. It's finally warming up, plus 4 today, but I am still freezing!

3. Friday is the day I bake bread (not in a bread machine). This week I am making cheddar onion bread, whole wheat bread, and pretzel buns!

 4. A busy week ahead. My granddaughter (Beep) will be spending her days with me next week. It's March Break (school holidays). Lot's of Canadians go South for March break. Since I am not a hot weather lover, I've always stayed right here.

5. I have an Australian Bearded Dragon (Tucker) as a pet. He will be 15 years old next month. Although "beardies" are desert dwellers, he really enjoys a bath now and again.

Bath time in the sink for Tucker. Look at that big smile on his face!

RANDOM 5 FRIDAY

Frosty

The feathery frost on the kitchen window is pretty, but when I see this, I know it must be darn cold out there. It's minus 17C this morning with the wind chill.

The birds were here early looking for food. This House Finch was waiting patiently as I struggled to get my boots and coat on over several layers of clothing, and numerous pairs of socks.

Merfy sits waiting patiently as well, to go out for his "morning constitutional", sporting his new hand knit sweater. Tell me you know what the design on it is!
(Hint, it's a squirrel).

We got more snow, and none of us are too happy about that! This grey squirrel (Redfeather) spotted me as I stumbled out the door, reminding me that I forgot the hazelnuts!

By the time I got all the feeders filled up, the Blue Jays had found the peanuts on the fence, and it started snowing again.

Rumor has it, there will be a "heat wave" on Saturday! It is forecast to go up to zero!!
