Migrating Tundra Swans on a stop over in Alymer Ontario, Canada to refuel, on their way to the high Arctic Region between Alaska and Baffin Island to breed. Thousands of the magnificent birds arrive in early March to rest before continuing migration.
Last weekend we visited the Aylmer Wildlife Management Area, where it was estimated that there were approximately 5,000 swans there already. Between 10,000 and 60,000 birds will come and go from this area over the next 3 week period.
The Wildlife management team (all volunteers), feed the swans 73 or more bushels of corn a day. The santuary depends on public and private donations for operating.
