Winter Sun

sharing with...
and
where you share 5 random facts about you, your day,
your pets, your kids, whatever.

1. Another cold and blustery day! It's minus 25 degrees today, with snow squalls.

2. It's been a long harsh winter this year, but there is beauty in every season. Finding that beauty warms my soul.

3. Although we have had masses of snow all winter, it's been dry. Dry snow doesn't make for good snowmen/women. Not one single snow person had adorned our backyard this year. It's a shame too, because Santa left a certain little girl, a "snowman kit" under the tree. It's a black top hat, a bright scarf, huge buttons, some coal for eyes, a carrot nose, and a toothy grin. The latter three things are made of plastic, so we are still hoping to get out there when the snow slushes up a bit!

4. We are celebrating big time this weekend, my daughter's birthday, her job promotion, her dog Peaches' birthday, and our dog, Merfy's birthday, as well! Love, laughter, cake and presents for all!

5. Our granddaughter, (Beep) has been spending her afterschool and dinner time with us, all this week. Her mom's new promotion, came with longer works hours for a while.  So... I better sign off and get cooking! Beep helped plan the menu, which just happens to include all her favourite food! Tonight is vegetarian lasagne, fresh homemade Italian bread, and a Caesar salad!

Beautesous photo, and what a menu, Beep, sounds like you are a photographer ,design artist and chef all rolled into a super grand-daughter. Enjoy it all Karen, and congrats to your daughter, promotion is rewarding in so many ways, and the longer hours are sometimes part of the territory. Hugs to all, Jean.

Gorgeous photo of the winter sky. I'm glad you find beauty amidst the freezing landscape. We, too, have only had a few 'wet' snows, but I've seen some snow creatures popping up periodically. Happy birthday to all the honorees, and I'll be right up for dinner!!

Beep has good taste! I was out driving in the sunshine this morning and then a switch went, the sky opened up, and I was in a blizzard! The sun was out again before I got home. Weird weather.

Karen,
Have fun celebrating all the special people and animals in your life. Birthdays are special occasions and should be celebrated!

I bet you and Beep are having fun together.

It has been a long cold, windy winter. I try to keep thinking spring thoughts too.

That is a beautiful photo! Not sure where you live, but -25 makes my 10 not seem quite so bad. Beep has great taste, sounds like a wonderful meal.

abrianna said...

The good thing about dry snow is that it is easier to shovel which is helpful when you get mounds and mounds of snow.

Beep has good taste in her favorite foods!

Nancy @ A Rural Journal said...

The snowman kit sounds like fun -- hope you are able to put it to use and get some images too! :)

Sarah Huizenga said...

Congrats. to your daughter on the promotion. Longer hours are ok for a little while, if it is a better job in the end.

Ida said...

What a beautiful photo.
Happy Birthday to all those celebrating, both furry and humankind. Also congrats to your daughter on the promotion.
That is bad about the snow not being the kind for building snow people. Our big snow was just right for that sort of thing.

Minus 25 you say!! Time to head south!!

Nice pic though. So maybe you should stay.

Beautiful picture. We've had similar temps. Enough is enough! I guess we have to continue to endure it for a while longer.

Here's hoping that at least one snowman gets built this winter and that you're in the midst of your happy, weekend celebrations.

The photo of the sun shining through the cedar branches is beautiful, Karen. I'm sure I've said it before, but you have such a good eye.
