Beep, (my granddaughter) and I, are spending her school vacation days together, (July and August, weekdays, from 9:30 until 3:30), while mom and dad are at work.
There is no TV allowed at gramma's house during the day, no movies, dvd's or videos. Electronic use is limited to an occasional hour or two on her iPad that we gave her as a "passing present". She is going into grade 5 in September!
We have quite the agenda! Arts and crafts, including designing and constructing our faerie houses, sewing lessons, learning photography basics, and cursive writing (which they no longer teach in the schools here). We have to spend a little time on math and spelling tutoring as well.
(That's a Canada Day wash off "tattoo" on her cheek)
And then there is physical fitness. Did you know that the average child in North America spends less that 3 hours a week engaging in any physical activity, and merely an hour a week outdoors! So, part of every day is outdoor time, skipping, hoola hooping, hopscotching, gardening, feeding the squirrels, (centre photo), and nature walks.
Ergo, gramma has a lot less time for photography, being on the internet, and a lot less energy as well! I won't be posting as often over the next two months, and I may not be able to visit and comment on as many blogs as usual. Not to worry, Pixel Posts will be back to "normal" in September.

ReplyDeleteGood for you for setting limits!
ReplyDeleteIf it's all summer, you're going to need them.
Our girls learn cursive writing in gr. 3 in Ottawa.
I taught it in gr. 4 classes.
We're babysitting for a week, 4 and 6 yr-olds. Gonna be a blast!

You are living life -- the most important part of it -- instead of writing about it and that is nothing but wonderful!! Enjoy this time. You ar esuch a good grandmother and beautiful Beep is lucky to be making memories with you!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time with Beep! You know I read an interesting article which claimed that most children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD are deprived of physical activity which is a necessary part of brain function. Sitting in school 8 hrs a day is not healthy! Duh. Hopefully, physical fitness will become more of a major role in schools soon. Enjoy your summer. :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time with your granddaughter and gorgeous sky shot!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful sunset!! Have fun with your granddaughter.
ReplyDeletePretty colours.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time with Beep.

ReplyDeleteIs there a better way to spend a summer day or two than lakeside? Hope you are enjoying your summer together.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly are a loving grandmother, looking after your pretty granddaughter for 2 months. It sounds like you have plenty of wonderful ideas of how she can spend her time, along with that unscheduled time for dreaming! Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteLake Huron looks fabulous in your sunset photo.
Karen
Beep is lucky to have you for her grandmother. I bet you'll both have a wonderful summer.
ReplyDeleteVery jealous - I would love our kids to be able to do this - but, unfortunately, we have no grandparents left!
ReplyDeleteSorry for slow reply - hectic weeks!
Cheers - Stewart M
Well it sounds as if we have something in common. Having returned from an Alaska cruise and multiple shore excursions I missed our early morning walks in the Florida wetlands. Sitting and eating have been our major activities, and I have 10 new pound to show for it! Now starting to tackle my correspondence backlog and enjoy seeing your delightful images on something bigger than an iPhone.
ReplyDeleteHa ha so cute. I'm loving all of your photos. And so gorgeous photography.
ReplyDelete👀
