A Lovely Surprise

We have not seen as many Monarch butterflies as usual over the summer,
in our yard in SW Ontario. So I was very happy to see...

Lot's of Monarchs at the cottage, on the Bruce Peninsula!

Frosty

The feathery frost on the kitchen window is pretty, but when I see this, I know it must be darn cold out there. It's minus 17C this morning with the wind chill.

The birds were here early looking for food. This House Finch was waiting patiently as I struggled to get my boots and coat on over several layers of clothing, and numerous pairs of socks.

Merfy sits waiting patiently as well, to go out for his "morning constitutional", sporting his new hand knit sweater. Tell me you know what the design on it is!
(Hint, it's a squirrel).

We got more snow, and none of us are too happy about that! This grey squirrel (Redfeather) spotted me as I stumbled out the door, reminding me that I forgot the hazelnuts!

By the time I got all the feeders filled up, the Blue Jays had found the peanuts on the fence, and it started snowing again.

Rumor has it, there will be a "heat wave" on Saturday! It is forecast to go up to zero!!

Grab Bag -4

sharing with...lots of memes. Scroll down to the photo that matches the meme ;)

Sweet Stoney Braveheart always insists on two peanuts at a time!
(He has the most magnificent tail I have ever seen on a squirrel)

Male House Finch, a common bird, but one of my favourites.

Nigella damascene (Love-in-a-Mist)
Last week I featured the same flower in pink.  I was thrilled to have some blue, and some white ones bloom from the same seed packet.

Merfy, I just love this sweet little face and that cute nose!

Against All Odds

Nigella damascene (Love-in-a-Mist)
belonging to the buttercup family Ranunculaceae

I fell in love with this flower when I saw it on someone's blog last year. I just had to have it in my garden. It's native to southern Europe, north Africa and southwest Asia. So, my chances of finding it in Canada were slim!

I managed to locate heirloom seeds, 'Persian Rose', online. I ordered them and planted them in June. I didn't have high hopes of them growing (considering our climate), but, against all odds...they grew and bloomed!

(The bloom is about the size of my thumbnail)
