Trilliums

Found these beauties in the forest.

I love trilliums, the official flower of Ontario.

There is a still a common belief that it is illegal in Ontario to pick white trillium flowers because of its status as the province's emblem.
While there is no such law, it is not advisable to pick the flowers because it takes so many years to produce one and the plant may take years to recover from the damage.

  1. They are beautiful things and a ban on picking them is a law which I could support.

  2. Lovely flowers, I really like the colors that emerge out of the white in the second photo. I would also not pick the flower, regardless of the law.

  3. Beautiful, down here they are a cultivated plant, and I had an old ( not in age but in years) friend who left all his tulips on the stems, he had hundreds, and said that was where they should stay.

  4. Good morning Karen: I think it's time for us to take the crown off our licence plates and replace it with a trillium. Nothing says Ontario
    lime TRILLIUM!

  5. How beautiful these are, Karen!
We have pink and white ones also, and they did very well this year.
    Happy day to you!

  7. Just beautiful Karen. Thank you for 'picking' them only with your camera and for sharing with us.
