Guts, as in glutton.
Yep, it's Stoney Braveheart,
He visits the yard at least 5 times a day,
and always takes two peanuts at a time.
Glory, as in astounding beauty.
Centaurea cyanus, or cornflower, bachelor's button.
Beep, my granddaughter, grew these from seed in my garden.
In herbalism, a decoction of cornflower is effective in treating eye ailments.

My, that's a glutton. Two nuts in his mouth. Think of the equivalent of us humans trying to do the same thing with objects of equivalent relative size. Amazing. But efficient.

ReplyDeleteAh, we both have those squirrel hogs, Karen!! Mine here carry off two peanuts at a time, too, although much of the time they just climb on the porch railing and eat away!! And Beep does have such gorgeous flowers! I do love the color! I'm sure she's so proud of them and she should be!!

ReplyDeleteI too almost thought of the squirrel as a "greedy glutton," but it is only doing what needs to be done in order to survive. Just think of how many it could carry if it had cheek pouches!

ReplyDeleteGlutton is a well chosen word ... I have a lot of gluttony at my feeders, both squirrels and chipmonks with their cheeks stuffed full of goodies. This was a great catch on your part, I must say. The cornflowers grow as weeds on the sides of the roads in our area. They add a touch of beauty to what would otherwise be a boring landscape.

ReplyDeleteI always enjoyed watching the two or three squirrels that lived in our trees. I was a little less pleased when one 'dropped in for a visit' down our chimney one year. Blue bachelor buttons are the Best! Cool shots.

ReplyDeleteYou must enjoy feeding him. I grow nuts and never see any of them because the squirrels get them all. But at least then they are too busy to bother my apple trees. The swirly petals of the cornflower are so pretty, love the color.
