Christmas Colours

A post for Macro Monday/The Creative Exchange/ i heart macro/Ruby Tuesday

Colours are the smiles of nature
~Leigh Hunt

The flowers of this poinsettia (green buds) are less than 1\8th of an inch in size, so my Raynox DCR-250 conversion macro lens did wonders on this shot!

The brightly coloured parts of a poinsettia are not the plant's flowers. They are actually bracts, or modified leaves surrounding the real flowers, which are the (3-5 mm) greenish-yellow buds in the centre of a bunch.

  9. Hi there - very nice study! Would have never worked out what it was.

The symmetry of butterflies really is remarkable - although I suppose all the asymmetrical ones get eaten rather fast!

  14. this is a superb macro of the point's flowers - it's like a secret world in there. the best part is the tiny, undeveloped bracts with the intense colors. I hope you're feeling better Karen. happy Monday to you.

  16. Wow, I'll say your camera did an amazing job--great macro shot. Love the bright red of poinsettias--a wonderful "splash" of color in the winter. Have a great week. Mickie :)

  17. The macro is amazing - if not explained, each bud looks akin to a green bell pepper turning red, the look of summer. The poinsettia is perfect for the season, the red and green just right. We'll get our poinsettias soon, the wonderful colors of December!
