Blowing In The WInd

Ontario is at the forefront of wind energy in Canada, with more than 1,500 MW of wind generation capacity connected to the province's power grid.

Many people living near the turbines in rural areas, are concerned about the possible health effects (from noise and vibrations), that the turbines could cause to humans and livestock.

Health Canada is launching a new two-year study on the potential health risks of living next to industrial wind turbines.

  1. it would be of concern to me, too.

nice image - like the contrast in dark post and light turbine. :)

  2. ooohhhh I never thought of that, good that they are looking in to it!

  3. I hadn't thought of that either, but guess I should be surprised -- no solution is 100%! Great capture!!

  4. It will be interesting to hear what they come up with. I was in Atlantic City last week for 3 days and they had loads of windmills in the surrounding bay providing power for the area. I haven't heard anything about any concerns but I will now pay more attention. Hope my photo comes out as good as yours!!

  5. Another cause of concern is the for all the migrating birds. There are several places where they have placed windmills right in the path of migrating birds. I would like to see energy saving windmills if they can find a safe place for them.

  6. I'll be looking forward to see the results also. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

  7. Yes, the noise from those turbines can be heard miles away.
    Nice capture of the landscape.

  8. I read about a different study on these things every day it seems like. Glad to not live under one whatever is finally decided, but they are quite wonderful to look at. (Once we saw one going down the freeway, each vane on back of a huge truck)..those things are massive!

  9. We have lots of these wind turbines here too.
    They are big aren't they?

  10. Wonderful contrast of the two.

    Please have a good Tuesday.

  11. A good capture & comments Karen. Australia too has been capitalising on this means of harnessing energy. While they are efficient, I guess all solutions come at a cost in one way or another.

  12. Excellent photo ~ Awesome ~ (A Creative Harbor) ^_^

ps. Cape Ann Ma is in the process of installing wind turbines ~

  13. Oh I love the look of these your photo is awesome. I wonder about all the hoopla in the Netherlands they are everywhere they seem to have no problems. They are way ahead of us. You would think if they had problems we would know and they would not use them. Something to think about. B

  14. I'll be interested to hear the outcome of this study. Seems like every way of producing electricity has its problems. And none of us are prepared to give up electricity. ;)

  15. I, too, am interested in the results of the study.

  16. What a great shot. Better wind turbines than nuclear plants though?

  17. Nice idea to link the windmill and the power lines.

I wonder what the outcome of the study will be?
